Proverbs 1-31
We just finished our January Campaign: 31 Days - 31 Chapters in the Book of Proverbs and it was an awesome time in the word.
By reading through Proverbs I hope you found out the importance of wisdom through the book itself but specifically in Proverbs 3:19 and 8:22-31. Here we see that God Himself did not do anything without it; it being wisdom.
Proverbs 3:19 tells us that "By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding He set the heavens in place; by His knowledge the watery depths were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.". Here we see that it wasn't just the presence of wisdom alone, but it was also understanding and knowledge. Those three go hand in hand and if God used them to create the earth and the heavens and the seas, why wouldn't we do the same in all of our doings?
Loot it like this...
WISDOM,...
...should be seen as the "foundation" of and to everything we do.
The Lord did not create the earth without first laying its foundations. According to science, there are 5 layers that make up these foundations and each had to be laid accordingly to sustain His purpose for the earth.
UNDERSTANDING,...
...as the "placement" or positioning of all that we are doing.
The heavens have their place. That means that they weren't just thrown somewhere haphazardly and left wherever they landed. They have their place and it is right where God would have them to be.
KNOWLEDGE...
...as the "division/separation" of all that we do.
The watery depths are for a purpose. We may not know why they are as they are but they are and God knows why. There is a reason for it all and it was established to fulfill that purpose. And as the depths of the sea get deeper and deeper, the temperature gets colder and colder and light gets dimmer and dimmer until there is no light at all. All of that is for a reason.
And just as God recognized the value of them, so should we. God in all His glory recognized the value of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge...
Proverbs 8:22-31 says "I, wisdom, was with the Lord when He began His work, long before He made anything else. I was created in the very beginning, even before the world began. I was born before there were oceans, or springs overflowing with water, before the hills were there, before the mountains were put in place. God had not made the earth or fields, not even the first dust of the earth. I was there when God put the skies in place, when He stretched the horizon over the oceans, when He made the clouds above and put the deep underground springs in place. I was there when He ordered the sea not to go beyond the borders He had set. I was there when he laid the earth's foundation. I was like a child by His side. I was delighted every day, enjoying His presence all the time, enjoying the whole world, and delighted with all its people.
Just as God created the heaven(s) and the earth for a specific purpose, to do specific things, He created wisdom in the same way. Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." but it could very well say, "In the beginning God created wisdom. And with wisdom "by His side", He created the heaven(s) and the earth." because that is what He did. And He did it in that order because the presence of wisdom was vitally important to God and the sustainability of His creations.
So again, how much should we pursue to be in the company of the presence of the wisdom that comes from above in all that we seek to do? How much should we desire to have wisdom by our side as we go about our day-to-day lives? Not just any wisdom but the wisdom from above. The wisdom that is guaranteed to be pleasing to God our Father. The wisdom that is guaranteed to lead us to all-around success.
The reality is the lack of wisdom is prevalent, but it doesn't have to be. God's wisdom is available. We can read it in His word as we just did. We can ask Him for it in prayer as James says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." -James 1:5
It's on us.
I'm convinced that there is wisdom written down throughout all the scriptures. The Book of Proverbs just lays it out in such a way that it prompts the readers to dig deeper for its meaning and seek it out with a sense of purpose; resolve and determination. And not just wisdom but understanding and knowledge that we can truly be skillful in it. This is something that God desires that we would be which is why He gives it to us generously without reproach. We just have to recognize our lack of it.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. -Proverbs 4:7 (BRG)
Pray this prayer...
Father God, I thank You for the wisdom that comes from above. I thank You that that wisdom is available for me every day and that You give it willingly. And if saw fit to have it by Your side in the beginning, I see fit to have it by my side as I go about all my doings. I need it to navigate life. I need it to navigate marriage. I need it to navigate parenting. I need it to navigate my career. I need it to navigate my schooling. I need it to navigate your purpose and calling on my life.
Heavenly Father, open up my heart to receive Your wisdom, renew my mind to be aware when I need Your wisdom, and train my mouth to speak Your wisdom.
This I pray in Jesus' name.
