REVELATION 12:11
11They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony.
To CONQUER means to OVERCOME and TAKE CONTROL OVER by military force; TRIUMPH OVER, BE VICTORIOUS OVER.
So when the scripture says "they have CONQUERED him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony" we have to understand that we are they who OVERCOME and TAKE CONTROL OVER the devil and that it is by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. The word that we focus on is CONQUERED which is great news but let's not overlook the keyword which is "by". We have CONQUERED the devil as a RESULT OF; BECAUSE OF, the blood of Lamb and the word of our testimony. Understanding this we can see the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony as being equivalent to a military force, which means that in this war with the devil our strength, our power, and our might is in the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
In wars between nations and people groups usually the side with the strongest military force comes out on top and wins the war. So to have a strong military force, really the strongest military group is the hope of all nations and people groups and if by chance they can't achieve that, they seek to become allies with others that have one.
But why was there/is there a need to CONQUER the devil?
REVELATION 12:9-17
9 And the great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying:
“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of His Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down—
he who accuses them day and night before our God.
11 They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony.
And they did not love their lives
so as to shy away from death.
12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens,
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea;
with great fury the devil has come down to you,
knowing he has only a short time.”
13 And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle to fly from the presence of the serpent to her place in the wilderness, where she was nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.
15 Then from the mouth of the serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman and sweep her away in the torrent. 16 But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth to swallow up the river that had poured from the dragon’s mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged at the woman, and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
Here we see that the devil was so enraged at the woman; Mary because she gave birth to the child; Jesus, would would bring salvation and the power and the kingdom of God to the earth. The devil couldn't stop her, he couldn't stop the Son so he has since been set out on destroying the rest of her children; the children of God. We are those children if we are doing those things and if we are doing those things, then the devil is and has been wagging war against us whether we knew it or not. Now we know and sometimes that lack of knowledge can allow for some serious damage to and in our lives.
Understanding that the devil was furious when he "went to make war" with those "who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus" shows us why it is important that the devil be CONQUERED. He in all his rage is hell-bent on doing us, the children of God harm. From the time that he "pursued the woman" til now, the devil is at war with the children of God. He couldn't prevent "the male child" from coming to earth so he's now focused on trying to prevent the rest of God's children from accomplishing God's desire for us; keeping God's commandments and holding to the testimony of Jesus. It is important that we understand this because if not, we can unknowingly wave the white flag of surrender simply by not doing what is causing him to wage war against us. Or, we could just not recognize that the things that are coming at us with malicious intent are coming at us because of the devil seeking to destroy us. And again, understand this, even though we have CONQUERED the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, he can still cause a lot of havoc in and around us if we aren't willing to engage in this war as CONQUERORS. By understanding this we understand that the only way to keep the devil at bay is through the force; the strength, the power, and the might that God has established for us to do just that. God has put us on the winning side of this war, we just have to continue to use what He has provided; the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
There is nothing outside of the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony that has the strength, the power, or the might that keep us VICTORIOUS OVER the devil. There is nothing outside of the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony that has the strength, the power, or the might to cause us to TRIUMPH OVER him. It's up to us, the people and children of God to understand this and operate in it so that we can keep the devil under our feet.
Plead the blood of the Lamb over yourself and all that concern you. Assert its power to CONQUER the devil and keep his efforts to cause havoc in and around you at bay. Plead the blood of the Lamb and watch it go to work on your behalf with great strength, power, and might.
Keep the word of your testimony. Bear witness to the grace and mercy that you have experienced in abundance in your life. Speak of His goodness every chance you get. And keep testifying to the VICTORIES you've won in Christ Jesus.
By doing so we remain CONQUERORS of the devil and maintain CONTROL OVER our lives.
