Humble Your Heart (3 questions)

September SOED Campaign

After reading the 5th Chapter of Daniel, here are 3 questions that we all should seek to find the answers to...

(1) Do You Think That Humility Is A Necessary Quality?

(2) Can A Person That Is Prideful Humble Their Own Heart?

(3) What Causes You To Humble Your Heart Towards The Lord?

These 3 questions can be answered by reading and understanding the heart of Belshazzar.

First, let's define HUMILITY...freedom from pride or arrogance: the quality or state of being HUMBLE; a modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness; meekness, modesty, lack of pride, lack of vanity

For question (1), deciding if HUMILITY is a NECESSARY QUALITY is key. For God it is. Remember that the scripture says plainly that "God RESISTS the PROUD" so if He "RESIST" those who are PROUD and HUMILITY is the quality or state of being HUMBLE and the freedom from PRIDE then we have to decide how we feel about it in regards to our own character.

For question (2), if a person is FULL OF PRIDE and or FULL OF ARROGANCE can that person change themselves and have a MODEST or LOW VIEW of their own IMPORTANCE; and by LOW VIEW I mean a view in relation to God and His word, His wisdom, His will and His plans. Can that person basically flip the script on him or herself?

And for question (3), something causes each one of us to "HUMBLE OUR HEARTS TOWARDS THE LORD", what is it? It could be what we have heard, seen, or even experienced that causes us to look at God and say "YOU ARE GREATER THAN I", "YOU ARE WISER THAN I", "YOU ARE GOD AND I AM JUST A MAN OR WOMAN". What is it for you?

Daniel chapter 5 shows us how Belshazzar disregarded these 3 questions throughout his kingship and maybe life even though his father Nebuchadnezzar had to answer them and others. But again, let us not just see this king and his plight but also ourselves and our own lives. Let us see the example of someone who refuse to address these questions and was one of those who "did not humble his heart" but instead remained PRIDEFUL and ultimately perished because of it.
